Chinalco Trial Successfully Produces Titanium Alloy Superconducting Bars

Recently, China Aluminum Corporation's Northwest Aluminum Processing Company successfully trialed titanium alloy superconducting bar extrusion products on a 45MM inversion extrusion machine. The quality of the bar products is qualified and fully meets the requirements for use. Titanium alloy superconducting materials are composed of pure copper and multiple titanium alloys. After extrusion, the products must ensure that the original structure is not changed, and the distribution should be uniform and continuous, and no fracture phenomenon can occur. The production technology process requirements are difficult.

Titanium alloy superconducting materials are mainly used in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) program, which is one of the world’s larger international science and technology cooperation projects for large scientific projects, and is also a large-scale international technology that China has participated in so far. The ITER program has attracted the participation of major nuclear and technological power countries including China, the European Union, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States. The research and development of titanium alloy superconducting materials was undertaken by China Western Superconducting Material Science and Technology Co., Ltd., and China Aluminum Corporation's Northwest Aluminum Processing Corporation and Western Superconducting Materials Technology Co., Ltd. were jointly responsible for the development of bismuth-titanium alloy superconducting rods.
